It depends how efficient it is vs. newer models and to a degree how long a repair is likely to last. What model do you currently have? (I had this same decision last year, for me a newer one was the way forward, assuming it lasts for a few years!)
This lays out the basics of the issue: the big factor is water usage of the replacement vs. a new one and how energy efficient it is in terms of heating that water. So you need to compare your current model's water usage and efficiency rating with a new one. My guess is a new one will win.
